Movie Review - The Avengers

I apologize that this is so late.  To be honest I watched the midnight showing of Avengers on Thursday night.  It was absolutely phenomenal and sadly cruel.  There is no way I can make a review of this film without giving out SPOILERS.  So take the jump to see my breakdown of it.

Now, to clarify I have seen all five movies leading up to this film (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger) and even the two Marvel One-Shots staring Agent Coulson (A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Thor's Hammer and The Consultant).  Note, if you haven't seen these two one-shots  I advise you do; they're really entertaining.  Another thing to clarify, although I'm pretty sure I mentioned it before, I'm not really into main stream comic books; however, I live with a walking Geek Encyclopedia and therefore there is no way I have no knowledge about The Avengers and their comic origins.
Okay, moving onto the obvious quirk, Mark Ruffalo, did a fantastic job.  Yes, Edward Norton is an amazing actor and did a outstanding job in The Incredible Hulk, but I don't think he would have created the same chemistry with the other actors like Ruffalo accomplished.
Robert Downey Jr. continued his awesome build up of Iron Man, he kept with his character and continued to deliver the hysterical lines that I anticipated.  Basically, the awesome shit he pulled off in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 he continued to deliver in Avengers but with more actors.  His talking science garble with Bruce Banner (Ruffalo) and then commenting, "Finally, someone who speaks English."  Yeah, that was great. The one downside to so many awesome people was I didn't get to hear as many "butler" lines as I wanted to from Paul Bettany.
So I heard a friend of mine say the other day that Hulk stole the movie.  I agree.  I did not anticipate the performance I received from Ruffalo in this movie.  He was astounding.  Loved the Hulk smash Loki moment.  I loved how he had himself in check and was always in control but it never seemed like it, like when he blew up in front of Black Widow.
Speaking of Black Widow.  Her character was less silly moments and more serious.  Fit great.  I actually love not seeing them over do the hot girl look.  I think they toned it down compared to other hot chicks in comic films.  Don't get me wrong I love seeing the hot moments but I loved enjoying her as a kick-ass agent.  Which is exactly what she is.  Scarlett Johansson kept with her character great.  Loved the beat 'em up with a chair scene and that moment in the big fight when she reloads her guns.
Chris Hemsworth continued to deliver his part exquisitely.  Thor's difficulty of understanding different worlds is still great.  His chesmistry with his brother, priceless.  I loved the moment were he recharged Iron Man's suit.  Straight out of the comics, perfect.
Moving onto Hawkeye.  Not gonna lie I was kind of upset he was "possessed" for the beginning of the film, but I did appreciate how Widow knocked some sense into him.  He was a great additive to a group of super powered beings.  Loved the bow.  I was okay with the lack of purple.
Chris Evans continuing his role of Captain America was great.  I loved his separation of times and never understanding what was being said, except for monkeys.  The fight scenes where he took charge were great.  Telling the cop what to do, epic.  Then there was his great line of directing every Avenger and ending with his best line, "Hulk...smash."  I cheered at that moment.
Agent Coulson....I teared up completed.  Next to me I heard my husband curse.  I...I was am so upset that...that that happened.
Nick Fury well executed.  Great performance by Samuel L. Jackson by playing the character spot on.  I can't comment to much on Maria Hill because I don't know much about her character other than she's an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
This time Loki had less "oh woe is me" moments and more "I hate everything" moments.  I appreciated it more.  Chitauri...they were there, then they weren't.  Thanos.  (If this became a spoiler for you then you shouldn't have read it.)  Interesting direction for them to go.  Looking forward to it.
Shawarma.  Yeah.  Loved it.  Just loved it.
Fight scenes.  Exquisitely great.  Loved the battle that the heroes had amongst themselves before joining forces.  Squealed during the big fight scene at the end every piece of it was just...oh...it was good.  Just good.
There's no question, in my opinion, this movie is totally worth seeing.
